Courage the Cowardly Dog is an American animated comedy horror television series created by John R. Dilworth. It was produced by Stretch Films for Cartoon Network. It ran from 1999 to 2002, airing a total of 52 episodes that spanned four seasons.

The series stars Courage, a cowardly dog who lives with an elderly couple, Muriel and Eustace Bagge. Abandoned as a pup, Courage was adopted by Muriel to stay at a home in the middle of Nowhere. But with creepy stuff happening in the area, it is up for Courage to save his owners' lives from the paranormal anomalies that occur within.

Development

The character of Courage originated from an earlier character of Dilworth's called Hamilton, who appeared in Smart Talk with Raisin, a pilot Dilworth created for MTV.

Music

The main title theme and episode scores was composed by Jody Gray and Andy Ezrin. In several episodes, Gray arranged various classical pieces, which payed homage to classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts and the scores of Carl W. Stalling;[1] one of them being Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", which was used in the episode of the same name.

Note: Select episodes from season one were sneak-previewed on August 21, 1999, during Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoon Weekend marathon.
